Shadow Puppet Theater

Create simple puppets and put on a shadow show using a flashlight and a blank wall. Perfect for imaginative sibling play.

What You'll Need

  • Flashlight or desk lamp
  • Cardstock or cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Tape and wooden sticks or straws

Step by Step

  1. 1

Draw simple character shapes on cardstock — animals, people, trees.

  2. 2

Cut out the shapes carefully (adult help for younger kids).

  3. 3

Tape each cutout to a stick or straw to make a puppet handle.

  4. 4

Set up a flashlight or lamp pointing at a blank wall.

  5. 5

Turn off the room lights and hold puppets between the light and wall. Tell a story!
